Ho Chi Minh City is set to revamp the southern bank of Doi Canal with four major infrastructure projects.
The municipal administration has proposed these urgent projects to enhance living conditions for 5,807 households currently facing inadequate sanitation and safety. The total investment for the largest project exceeds VND17.9 trillion (6 million), with plans for implementation from 2026 to 2032.
Major Infrastructure Projects Planned for Doi Canal
The proposed projects aim to relocate residents from makeshift homes along the southern bank of Doi Canal to new housing with improved living standards. The city plans to divide the overall scheme into four independent components, each targeting specific sections of the canal.
The first project will cover a 1.2-kilometer stretch from Rach Ong Bridge to Mat Bridge, affecting 944 households and requiring the acquisition of 6.13 hectares of land. The second project spans 2.1 kilometers from Mat Bridge to Hiep An Bridge, impacting 2,060 households and necessitating 11.01 hectares of land.
Key Details on the Doi Canal Renovation
The third project will run nearly 2.6 kilometers from Hiep An Bridge to Ba Tang Bridge, affecting 1,434 households with an acquisition of 11.19 hectares. The fourth and largest project extends approximately 2.9 kilometers from Ba Tang Bridge to the end of the southern bank, requiring 20.85 hectares and impacting 1,723 households.
These projects will include significant infrastructure upgrades, such as a riverside embankment, expanded bridges, and new roads, parks, and sports facilities.
