Lagos Government Launches Capacity-Building Program for Local Planning Departments

The Lagos State Government is enhancing grassroots development through a new capacity-building initiative.

This program targets Heads of Planning, Research and Statistics Departments across Lagos’ 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas. It aims to improve the generation and use of credible data for effective governance and sustainable development.

Strengthening Data-Driven Governance in Lagos

The Lagos State Government has launched a capacity-building program designed for planning, research, and statistics officers. This initiative took place at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was organized by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.

Permanent Secretary Mrs. Olayinka Ojo emphasized the necessity of reliable data for effective governance. She pointed out that local governments play a crucial role in gathering and utilizing information that reflects the needs and socio-economic conditions of their communities.

Lagos: Key figures on data-driven development

  • 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs)
  • 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs)
  • One-day engagement program

Collaborative Efforts for Improved Data Systems

The engagement included technical presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions with various institutions, including the Lagos Bureau of Statistics and UNICEF. Participants gained practical insights into enhancing data management and collaboration.

The discussions aimed to improve the accuracy and reliability of data essential for development planning and service delivery. The Ministry remains committed to fostering a responsive social protection system through credible data and strategic partnerships.
