Egypt Proposes New Sovereign Wealth Fund and Restructures Economic Authority

Egypt is poised for a significant transformation in its economic landscape with the introduction of new legislation aimed at restructuring its investment framework.

The proposed law seeks to establish the “Nile Pyramids” sovereign wealth fund and enhance the Future of Egypt Authority’s role in managing state assets. This initiative aligns with ongoing structural reforms supported by the IMF, aiming to improve public asset management and attract long-term investments.

New Sovereign Wealth Fund to Boost Investment

The legislation proposes the creation of the Future of Egypt Sovereign Wealth Fund – Nile Pyramids, which will serve as a key long-term investment vehicle. This fund aims to preserve and grow state assets through both domestic and international investments, partnering with regional and global sovereign wealth funds.

Unlike the existing Sovereign Fund of Egypt, which reports to the Cabinet, the Nile Pyramids Fund will operate under the Future of Egypt Authority, which reports directly to the President. This shift is expected to create a more streamlined investment platform within Egypt’s public investment framework.

Strengthening the Future of Egypt Authority

The Future of Egypt Authority is set to become a powerful institution with full legal, financial, and administrative autonomy. It will be responsible for a broad range of sectors, including agriculture, logistics, and industrial development. The Authority’s expanded mandate reflects the government’s strategy to consolidate key economic assets under specialized institutions.

In addition to the sovereign wealth fund, the legislation introduces the Future of Egypt Social Development Fund – Daem, which will focus on channeling investment returns into essential social programs like education and healthcare.

Next Steps for Proposed Legislation

  • The draft legislation will be considered by Parliament.
  • If approved, it will establish a dual sovereign wealth framework.
  • The Future of Egypt Authority will play a central role in long-term investment strategies.

Egypt is taking bold steps to reshape its economic future through innovative investment structures.
