New water reservoirs in Itanhaém significantly boost water security for Baixada Santista.

Two new treated water reservoirs have commenced operations, enhancing the region’s water security with a total capacity of 20 million liters. The project, part of the Mambu-Branco system, represents an investment of R$ 84.6 million and aims to serve five cities and 1.2 million residents.

The newly inaugurated reservoirs are the first phase of the Mambu-Branco system, which will supply Itanhaém, Peruíbe, Mongaguá, Praia Grande, and São Vicente. This initiative is crucial for ensuring a reliable water supply, especially during peak seasons when the population in Baixada Santista increases significantly.

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas emphasized that this delivery strengthens the water supply and transforms the distribution logic among municipalities. Secretary Natália Resende noted that the project enhances reliability and operational security for water distribution.

Construction Details and Future Plans

The construction of these reservoirs began in July 2025, utilizing bolted metallic technology. Each reservoir features a diameter of 56 meters and a height of 5 meters, designed to store 10 million liters of treated water. Deep foundations with pre-molded concrete piles reaching 40 meters ensure stability.

Another two reservoirs are currently under construction, with completion anticipated in the second half of 2026. This expansion will further bolster the region’s water supply capabilities.
