The announcement was made during the Final Gala of the World Travel Awards 2025, widely regarded as the “Oscars of Tourism,” hosted this year in the vibrant surroundings of Bahrain. Following a thorough voting process that included contributions from tourism professionals, specialized media, and travelers from across the globe, the Algarve emerged victorious among 19 competitive nominees, which included notable destinations such as Porto Santo, Thailand, Cancun, Seychelles, the Philippines, and Zanzibar.
André Gomes, president of Algarve Tourism, highlighted the significance of this recognition, stating, “More than a victory, it’s a clear confirmation that the Algarve is at the forefront globally when we talk about beach destinations.” He stressed the responsibility that comes with such accolades, vowing to maintain high standards by preserving natural resources and exceeding visitor expectations year after year.
Adding to its impressive resume, the Algarve has also accrued 10 distinctions for Best Beach Destination in Europe over the last decade (with awards in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). This continuous stream of international recognition reinforces the Algarve’s appeal, showcasing over 200 kilometers of stunning coastline.
