Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie Champions Compassion and Professionalism During Judicial Meeting
In a heartening call for compassion and professionalism, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie urged judicial officers to foster a sense of kindness and courtesy in their dealings with court users. The esteemed Chief Justice delivered this poignant message during the inaugural Annual General Meeting of the Judicial Service Staff Co-operative Fund (JUSCOFund) at the Law Court Complex in Accra, Ghana.
The establishment of JUSCOFund in 2023 marked a significant step towards helping judicial staff secure their financial future through savings, affordable credit, and strategic long-term investments. This year’s AGM was tailored around the powerful theme of “Securing the Financial Future of Judicial Workers through Financial Co-operative Models”—a reflection of the commitment to enhancing the welfare of those who stand on the front lines of justice delivery.
During the meeting, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie proudly introduced the Judicial City Estates Project, which is set to spring up in Kordiabe, located in the Shai Osudoku District. This ambitious project is not just a testament to the growth of the Judicial Service but also an opportunity for judicial workers to secure comfortable living conditions.
Reinforcing the importance of ethical conduct, the Chief Justice highlighted a newly introduced Constitutional Instrument that establishes a code of conduct aimed at ensuring accountability and professional excellence within the judiciary. “As Chief Justice, I remain the Chief Servant, and our collective fidelity must be to the law and the Constitution,” he proclaimed, emphasizing teamwork and shared values essential to the justice system.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie took a moment to celebrate the strides made by the Judicial Service in recent years, attributing improvements in staff welfare and institutional performance to a spirit of collaboration and commitment to ongoing reforms. “These gains are not accidental,” he asserted. “They are the result of collaboration, mutual respect, and the understanding that justice delivery is only as strong as the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold it.”
Notably, the meeting was marked by the announcement of Presidential approval for the long-awaited Constitutional Instrument 141—formally known as the Judicial Service (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulation, 2025. This development comes after three decades of anticipation. “I am pleased to note that CI 141 matured into law in November 2025,” he declared, underscoring a historic advancement for judicial workers.
As the Judicial Service continues to evolve, initiatives like JUSCOFund and the establishment of the Judicial City Estates Project signal a forward-thinking approach to nurturing justice personnel. The emphasis on compassion and professionalism could not be more timely, as the judiciary plays a critical role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring equitable access to justice for all citizens.
