In a heartwarming ceremony held on Tuesday, the Lagos State Government showcased its unwavering commitment to its retirees by presenting retirement bond certificates worth an impressive N1.5 billion to 832 dedicated public servants. This significant event took place during the 112th Batch Retirement Bond Presentation Ceremony at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Ikeja, where the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission, Babalola Obilana, expressed gratitude towards those who have devoted their careers to public service.
Obilana referred to the ceremony as a “deeply significant gathering that celebrates dedication, service, honour, and fulfilment.” He acknowledged the retirees’ contributions to the development of governance in Lagos State. “You have served faithfully, and today the state stands ready to fulfil its promise to you,” he affirmed, congratulating the beneficiaries for their steadfast service.
The event also highlighted the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s, “unwavering commitment” to workers’ welfare. Obilana emphasized how the state has consistently fulfilled its obligations under the Contributory Pension Scheme, ensuring that both employer and employee pension contributions are promptly remitted to retirement savings accounts. This commitment positions Lagos as a leader in pension management across Nigeria, showcasing a dedication to the financial wellbeing of its workforce.
Obilana further discussed the ongoing reforms within the pension administration system, emphasizing advancements such as digitization, continuous record reconciliation, and collaboration with Pension Fund Administrators. “The Bond Presentation Ceremony remains central to these reforms. Each ceremony represents not just numbers on charts but real individuals whose futures are being safeguarded,” he noted.
These advancements have resulted in Lagos running “one of the most efficient and well-managed pension systems in the country,” supported by continuous training and sensitization programs for human resource officers, directors, and pension desk officers across various ministries and departments (MDAs). This holistic approach ensures that both past and current employees are well-supported in their transition from active service to retirement.
With this most recent presentation of bonds, former public servants can look forward to secure financial futures, reflecting the state’s commitment to honoring their years of service. As Lagos continues to lead the charge in welfare reforms, it sets a compelling example of how governments can prioritize their workforce, ensuring that dedication to public service is met with gratitude and support.
As we celebrate these developments in Lagos, we look forward to more initiatives that uplift both current and retired civil servants. This commitment to honoring service and ensuring a secure future resonates beyond Lagos and signifies progress in governance across #Nigeria. #Politics #BusinessNews
