Strengthening the Sahel: Initiatives for Stability and Development Unveiled in Dori

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – The third session of the regional consultation framework focusing on the vital Ouagadougou-Kaya-Dori-Djibo (OKDD) axis was held on Tuesday in Dori, under the leadership of Auguste Kinda, Secretary General of the Sahel region. This meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, technical and financial partners, and local organizations, to discuss innovative pathways for stabilizing and enhancing the socio-economic fabric of this crucial corridor.

As reported by Africazine, this session had a clear agenda aimed at promoting security while fostering development initiatives along the OKDD axis, recognized as a critical lifeline for both economic and social interactions in the region. Harouna Kabore, the regional director of Economy and Planning for the Sahel, highlighted key measures, such as the ambitious project to construct an airfield in Dori. This infrastructure will serve as a gateway for air travel into the Sahel, enhancing connectivity and making significant strides toward improving safe mobility for the local population.

The meeting not only focused on infrastructural improvements but also on the urgent need to bolster economic and social resilience among vulnerable communities. EU Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Marc Duponcel, attended the event and expressed the European Union’s unwavering commitment to supporting stabilization and development efforts in the Sahel. He reaffirmed ongoing funding for multiple projects in the region, underscoring the importance of a robust partnership with local authorities. Duponcel’s remarks echoed the collective ambition to enhance the living conditions of those affected by regional dynamics, showcasing the region’s positive outlook for collaboration.

During his remarks, Secretary General Auguste Kinda reiterated the significance of the consultation framework, established in 2011, as a platform for dialogue and the sharing of developmental strategies among various stakeholders.
