Exciting News: Second Round of Property Enumeration for Oworo Homeowners Affected by Demolitions Is Underway!

The bustling heart of Lagos continues to evolve with the latest initiative from the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA). On November 3, 2025, the agency launched its second round of enumeration for property owners impacted by the Oworonshoki regeneration project. This significant effort aims to ensure that no resident is left unaccounted for, particularly those who may not have participated in the first round.

The enumeration exercise kicked off at the Oloworo palace in Oworonshoki, drawing various stakeholders including LASURA staff, community leaders, and members of security agencies. Tpl/Esv. Oladimeji Animashaun, the General Manager of LASURA, underscored the dedication of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensuring fair compensation for all affected property owners. His leadership has already seen successful payments to 79 displaced residents from the initial round, illustrating a strong commitment to the community.

Animashaun also acknowledged key contributors to the process, including Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser on E-GIS and Urban Development, and Arc Gbolahan Oki, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of Urban Development. Their collaborative efforts reflect a government striving to improve urban living while respecting the needs of its citizens.

To facilitate a smooth process, residents are required to submit essential documents such as LASSRA ID cards, passport photographs, land receipts, deeds of conveyance, and their bank details. A dedicated committee, composed of LASURA staff, community leaders, and resident representatives, will verify these documents, ensuring that those deserving of support receive their compensation. To further streamline this process, representatives from FCMB were on-site to assist residents in opening bank accounts, ensuring everyone can access their payments efficiently.

Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Many residents expressed their deep appreciation for Governor Sanwo-Olu and the LASURA team, praising their diligence and steadfast commitment to addressing the needs of the community. This regeneration project not only aims to enhance the physical landscape of Oworonshoki but also reflects a broader vision of sustainable urban development in Lagos.

The ongoing efforts highlight a progressive approach to urban challenges, showcasing how collaboration between government agencies and local residents can lead to successful urban transformations. As Lagos continues to grow and change, initiatives like these are vital in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
