Exciting Times in Southern Namibia as Rain Showers Bring Relief!

It was a refreshing weekend in southern Namibia, where much-needed rain finally arrived, bringing widespread joy and relief to residents. Social media was abuzz with posts and videos showcasing the showers that graced various localities, as many shared their experiences and rainfall updates against the backdrop of the vibrant Namibian landscape.

Reports indicate that the Maltahöhe area recorded an impressive 10mm of rain, while the town of Alexandria, located approximately 40km north-northwest of Aranos, welcomed 8mm of rainfall. Further south, Ganoes, just 55km from Aranos, saw varying rainfall amounts between 6mm and 12mm. An exciting highlight was at the Alte Kalkofen Lodge, reachable in just 100km from Keetmanshoop on the Lüderitz road, which measured a remarkable 32mm. This significant downpour brought the total close to 83mm when combined with earlier showers, and the Gurib River was seen flowing emphatically near the lodge.

Not to be outdone, Berghof, located 90km southeast of Keetmanshoop, reported 30mm of rain, providing much-needed respite in a region that frequently grapples with dry spells.

As the rain falls, it offers more than just a momentary thrill – it helps rejuvenate the surrounding environment, replenish water supplies, and even supports local agriculture.
