Exciting Developments on the Mongu-Lusaka Road: A Step Towards Better Connectivity in Zambia!

Infrastructure development is essential for any nation’s growth, and Zambia is making significant strides in this area. Recent updates from Africazine reveal that the rehabilitation of the Katunda-Tateyoyo stretch, part of the crucial 87-kilometer Mongu-Lusaka Road, is progressing impressively, with about 50% of the work already completed. This project is set to enhance transportation links in the Western Province, bringing meaningful benefits to the local communities.

During a recent inspection, Western Province Permanent Secretary Simomo Akapelwa, joined by Kaoma District Commissioner Kashina Sheba and engineers from the Road Development Agency (RDA), highlighted the project’s importance. “We are excited to report that 40 kilometers of the 87 kilometers will be tarred between October and December this year. Once completed, this stretch will be opened to the public, significantly improving travel and commerce in the region,” Akapelwa stated.

The ongoing construction involves laying a stable stone base for the road, utilizing heavy machinery to ensure quality and durability. Next week marks a critical milestone, as work will commence on trial surfacing. If the results are satisfactory, this will pave the way for the completion of half of the contract, with plans to offer the newly finished roadway to public use soon after.

In addition to the Katunda-Tateyoyo project, there’s more positive news on the horizon! Ackapelwa also announced that the contractor for the upgrading of another roadway stretching from Katunda to Lukulu, Watopa, and Mumbezhi will soon be mobilizing on site. With Project Resident Engineer Abdus Sattar expressing confidence in meeting project timelines, residents can look forward to even more enhancements in regional connectivity.

Furthermore, Akapelwa engaged in discussions with Chief Mutondo at his Lukena Palace in Mangango to address various developmental issues, focusing on these significant road projects. His visit also included checks on the ongoing construction of Chief Mutondo’s palace, an initiative that reflects the commitment to fostering community pride and development.

These ongoing projects not only symbolize progress and development but showcase Zambia’s dedication to improving infrastructure and quality of life for its citizens. The future is bright as these roads reinforce the connectivity necessary for economic growth and access to essential services.
