Meet Our New Emergency Physician: Bringing Expertise and Compassion to Your Care!

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) has exciting news to share, bringing a wave of positivity and enhanced medical services to the community! In a recent announcement, HGMH revealed two significant additions to its medical team: Dr. Wael Badawy, a fresh face in the Emergency Department, and the roll-out of Physiatry services led by the esteemed Dr. Jacqueline Cochrane.

Dr. Badawy, who recently concluded his residency at McGill University, comes to HGMH with a rich background in medicine. Before his residency, he gained valuable experience as a locum dermatologist in Cairo, Egypt, and served as a part-time lecturer on Occupational Safety Practices in Canada. His commitment to patient care shines through, especially during critical times when patients and families need it the most.

In his words, “I was immediately drawn to HGMH by its friendly and welcoming environment. The staff’s professionalism, combined with a well-organized and efficient structure, made it clear that this is a place where both patients and healthcare providers are supported. It felt like a community where I could grow as a clinician while contributing meaningfully.” This commitment to teamwork is evident as Dr. Badawy expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with fellow healthcare providers, saying, “I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated team to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

The introduction of Dr. Badawy to HGMH’s Emergency Department is particularly noteworthy as it will bolster the hospital’s capacity to deliver timely, expert, and compassionate care when it is needed most.

In another exciting development, HGMH has rolled out Physiatry services, a significant advancement for patient rehabilitation. Dr. Cochrane, a specialist in stroke care and spasticity management, will provide this vital service to referred inpatients. Her expertise encompasses treating neurological disorders, fatigue and mood issues, behavioral challenges, and swallowing difficulties, among others. This new addition is instrumental in ensuring that patients no longer need to travel to Ottawa for specialized care, thereby increasing accessibility.

HGMH plans to implement these Physiatry services in a phased manner, initially focusing on inpatients with the aim of expanding to outpatient support in the near future. “We are delighted to welcome both Dr. Badawy and Dr. Cochrane. Their expertise and dedication to patient care will not only strengthen our emergency response but also enhance rehabilitation and recovery for our patients,” stated Robert Alldred-Hughes, President & CEO.

These significant additions underscore HGMH’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, comprehensive, patient-focused care right in the heart of the community. As healthcare continues to evolve, HGMH is clearly paving the way for an even brighter future for patient care in Glengarry.
