Recently, beneficiaries of various developmental initiatives gathered in Windhoek to celebrate the 35th anniversary of German-Namibian cooperation, and the gratitude expressed by locals speaks volumes about the transformative impact these programs have had on their businesses and lives.
Elizabeth Mpareke Runguro, an inspiring farmer from the Kavango East Region, took to the podium to share her journey of empowerment with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). Through their robust support in training, equipment provision, and infrastructure development, Runguro has successfully scaled her agricultural business, focusing on horticulture. Her ambitious plans to diversify into poultry, piggery, and fish farming showcase the growth mindset fostered by GIZ’s dedication to rural development. Runguro is not just thinking of her own success—she’s passionate about helping fellow farmers in her region, aiming to train and mentor others in the fight against poverty.
Another heartfelt story came from Kakunandunda Katuuo, hailing from the Omaheke Region. Her farm has thrived thanks to GIZ’s introduction of Agri PV technology, which equipped her with a much-needed cold room, office space, and a solar system. These enhancements not only improved her operational efficiency but also significantly reduced post-harvest losses, turning her farming venture into a sustainable enterprise. Moreover, the addition of a borehole has addressed previous water challenges, allowing Katuuo to focus on what she does best—farming.
Emma Koti also shared her inspiring journey, having participated in a housing and construction training program supported by KfW Development Bank. Through this initiative, she gained invaluable insights into construction management, from planning and contractor selection to budget management and project monitoring. Koti’s newfound skills position her well for future growth in Namibia’s evolving housing sector.
Germany’s commitment to empowering Namibia through development cooperation is unwavering.
