Zimbabwe Gears Up for Halal Economy Showcase at MIHAS 2025
Zimbabwe is set to make its mark in the booming global halal economy with an exciting presentation at the prestigious Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025. Scheduled for September 17-20, this prominent event in Kuala Lumpur will place Zimbabwean exporters in the limelight, enabling them to introduce their high-quality halal-certified products to an international audience, as reported by Africazine.
MIHAS is widely recognized as one of the leading trade exhibitions in the world focusing on halal products, providing an invaluable platform for countries looking to expand their presence in the halal market. The initiative led by ZimTrade, Zimbabwe’s national trade development organization, underscores the country’s commitment to diversifying its export portfolio by venturing into lucrative markets populated by a significant Muslim demographic.
According to ZimTrade, Malaysia imports almost 90 percent of its horticultural produce, positioning it as a prime destination for Zimbabwean products. This showcase not only presents an opportunity in Malaysia but also opens doors to the larger ASEAN economic bloc, representing a rapidly growing market with a combined GDP exceeding .6 trillion. “Our participation at MIHAS is a testament to Zimbabwe’s National Export Strategy, championed by our Parent Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,” noted Allan Majuru, CEO of ZimTrade. The involvement aims to build a robust, diversified export economy while benchmarking local products against international counterparts.
Zimbabwe’s pavilion will feature a wide array of premium agricultural goods, notably blueberries and peas, with the blueberry sector showcasing remarkable growth—an impressive 85 percent increase in exports in the last five years. Demand for blueberries is expected to double globally in the next five years, placing Zimbabwe in a favorable position as a trusted supplier.
But the showcase won’t stop there. Visitors can also look forward to discovering natural oils, innovative cosmetics, and high-quality leather goods, all reflecting Zimbabwe’s rich natural resources and craftsmanship. Halal certification is crucial for access to these booming markets, and ZimTrade is collaborating with the Zimbabwe Halaal Council to align its certification processes with internationally recognized standards, such as Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).
A noteworthy addition to MIHAS 2025 is its integrated e-commerce platform, designed to facilitate direct connections between Zimbabwean producers and global buyers. This innovation aims to enhance the visibility of “Made in Zimbabwe” products, making international trade faster and more efficient.
This strategic showcase symbolizes a pivotal moment in Zimbabwe’s journey toward becoming a global supplier of high-quality halal-compliant products. By participating in events like MIHAS, Zimbabwe is enhancing its reputation in the halal economy while diversifying its export markets, paving the way for sustainable growth.
