Ladies to Legends: Empowering Young Women at IIE MSA
In an inspiring celebration of female empowerment, IIE MSA recently hosted its annual Ladies to Legends event, uniting 64 ambitious young women under the theme “Ladies in Leadership.” This year’s event served as a remarkable platform to honor the contributions women make in society while motivating the next generation to embrace their own leadership potential.
The lineup of speakers was nothing short of extraordinary. Featuring an impressive panel of expert women leaders such as Boitumelo Phetlhu, an honors student in Business Science and President of the MSA Voice Committee, and Sithisa Magxwalisa-Myeko, an accomplished industrial psychologist, the event was rich with knowledge and inspiration. Also joining them was Devrani Moonsamy, the Head of Finance at the Ombud Council and a member of CFO South Africa, and Karen Jacobs, a Captain Relief Commander with the South African Police Services.
Each speaker shared valuable insights and personal stories that not only motivated attendees but also provided practical takeaways for their careers. For instance, Moonsamy emphasized the critical role of financial literacy as a cornerstone for sustainable personal and professional futures. Magxwalisa-Myeko focused on workplace wellness and the profound influence of habits on long-term success, while Jacobs offered practical tips for building resilience, ensuring safety, and nurturing self-confidence.
Students expressed how profound the event was for them. Azanathi Genu, a second-year Laws student, remarked, “Ladies to Legends reminded me of the powerful lineage of women that raised me—from my great-grandmother to my grandmother and mother. I was particularly inspired by Sithisa, who highlighted the power of our habits in shaping our futures. I left with a renewed commitment to authenticity, purpose, and sisterhood.”
What stood out most was the communal atmosphere cultivated throughout the discussions. Participants were reminded that true empowerment extends beyond personal achievement to encompass lifting others as well. The conversations fostered a deep sense of sisterhood and a community of future leaders motivated to make an impact.
As the Ladies to Legends event continues to empower young women to lead with confidence and integrity, it remains a critical venue for nurturing the next generation of female leaders, equipped to shape a better tomorrow.
