Tented Camps in Namibia Soar to 58% Occupancy: A June to Remember!

Tented camps in Namibia are riding a wave of popularity, setting the stage with impressive occupancy rates in June 2025, according to recent findings by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA). As the country navigates the ups and downs of the hospitality industry, tented camps stood out with a notable room occupancy of 58.0% and a bed occupancy of 51.5%. This performance underscores their increasing allure among both locals and tourists alike.

While it’s important to acknowledge that overall room occupancy dipped by 6.5% compared to May, this decline was seen primarily in the southern and northern regions of Namibia, where factors like seasonal trends likely played a role. In contrast, the central and coastal regions flourished with increases of 31.1% and 14.6%, respectively. This highlights the dynamic nature of travel and tourism in Namibia, a country renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural experiences.

In June 2025, Namibia showcased a total of 60,593 rooms available across the country. Of these, 31,100 rooms were sold, reflecting a strong demand that persists despite the overall drop. Competition among accommodation types is fierce, and the NSA’s statistics reveal some intriguing trends. While most accommodation types saw declines in occupancy, guest houses bucked the trend with an increase to 55.4%, demonstrating their growing appeal for both budget-conscious travelers and those seeking a cozy stay.

Despite the minor setbacks for some establishments, tented camps continue to shine brightly among them all. Their unique appeal—offering an authentic and immersive experience in Namibia’s spectacular wilderness—seems to resonate deeply with tourists eager for adventure. Not only do they provide essential comforts amidst nature, but they also foster a connection to Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes and rich wildlife.

The Bed Occupancy Rate Index experienced a more substantial drop of 9.3% month-over-month in June, indicative of the shifting dynamics in traveler preferences and seasonal impacts. Interestingly, the northern region recorded the largest decline in bed occupancy, dropping 15.2%. On the flip side, the central and coastal regions saw growth, showcasing a regionally diverse hospitality landscape.

As we progress through 2025, the hospitality sector in Namibia awaits more developments and adaptations to continue attracting travelers. Indeed, with improving conditions in the central and coastal areas and the resilience displayed by tented camps, there is reason for optimism in the Namibian tourism industry.

With this strong performance under its belt, Namibia’s hospitality sector seems poised for exciting opportunities ahead. Whether you’re planning a getaway filled with adventure or seeking tranquility surrounded by nature, tented camps in Namibia are definitely worth considering for your next vacation destination.
