Abu Dhabi Airports Soars to New Heights with Impressive Passenger Traffic Growth
Abu Dhabi Airports is celebrating a remarkable achievement, reporting double-digit growth in passenger traffic for the 17th consecutive quarter. This surge in numbers reflects a thriving travel landscape, driven by strong flight movements and cargo growth during the first half of 2025.
From January 1 to June 30, Abu Dhabi Airports welcomed over 15.8 million passengers, marking a 13.1% increase over the same period last year. This growth is largely attributed to the Zayed International Airport (AUH), which alone recorded 15.5 million passengers, a 13.2% jump year-on-year. With 133,533 flights across all five airports in the emirate, Abu Dhabi has solidified its position as a bustling hub in the region, highlighted by a 9.2% increase in flight movements compared to H1 2024.
The airport’s impressive performance doesn’t stop there. AUH registered a striking 93,858 aircraft movements, reflecting an 11.4% increase from the previous year when it tallied 84,286 flights. This operational growth is not just a number; it showcases the airport’s capacity to handle increasing passenger demand amidst a dynamic travel environment.
Excitingly, the first half of 2025 also saw the addition of 16 new destinations and the arrival of new airline partners. Among the noteworthy additions are China Eastern Airlines, which will offer four weekly flights to Shanghai (with plans for daily service starting in September), and Air Seychelles, enhancing connectivity with six weekly flights.
Elena Sorlini, the Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, commented on the airport’s trajectory: “The first six months of this year have posed some operational challenges, yet our exceptional mid-year results demonstrate the resilience of our network and the collaborative partnerships that underpin our growth.” Sorlini further noted that with Abu Dhabi’s tourism and trade prospects rapidly advancing, the airports are strategically positioned to support that growth.
Moreover, cargo operations have also seen significant advancements, emphasizing Abu Dhabi’s importance in the global trade arena. With an impressive 344,795 tonnes of cargo handled in the first half of 2025, the emirate continues to leverage strategic partnerships and ongoing infrastructure enhancements to strengthen its market presence.
As the travel landscape reopens and flourishes, Abu Dhabi Airports is not only facilitating connectivity but also paving the way for a prosperous future in aviation and trade.
