Exciting News for Students: HELB Expands Access Across Kenya!
In a move that is certainly music to the ears of Kenyan students, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has recently announced the rollout of in-person services at various Huduma Centres across the country. This initiative aims to provide students and beneficiaries with better access to vital educational resources, making the loan application process smoother and more efficient.
On a sunny Wednesday, July 30, HELB revealed that services would be available at 28 strategically located Huduma Centres. Students can now easily visit centres in bustling cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru, as well as in smaller towns like Machakos, Eldoret, and Bungoma. Whether you’re in the heart of the city or in rural areas, HELB is determined to ensure that quality support is just a short trip away.
For those interested, here’s the full list of towns where HELB is making its presence felt: Nairobi-GPO, Machakos, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, and many more. For example, students in Lodwar, Meru, Thika, and Kilifi can now easily access services that were previously only available in major urban centres.
But that’s not all! HELB has also partnered with cyber cafes in 23 additional Huduma Centres to provide select services like online application support and the ability to upload necessary documents. This is great news for students in places like Eastleigh, Busia, and Nyandarua, enhancing digital access to educational resources.
Accompanying this announcement was a helpful guide published by HELB, outlining how undergraduate and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students can apply for loans via the HELB mobile app. By downloading the app from the Google Play Store or Apple Store and following a straightforward registration process, students can manage their loan applications from the palm of their hands. The steps are user-friendly and include creating a 4-digit PIN for logins, confirming personal details, and even tackling financial literacy questions.
Once the application is submitted, students will receive a unique loan serial number that confirms their application status via both the app and an SMS notification.
Overall, this initiative marks a substantial step forward in making education financing more accessible to all Kenyans. This blend of physical presence and digital resources aims to empower students in their educational journeys, ensuring that financial hurdles do not stand in the way of their aspirations.
