“Empowering Education: 2000 Alumni Unite to Fuel Learning Initiatives at LASU”

In a heartwarming tribute to their alma mater, the Lagos State University Economics Alumni Class of 2000, affectionately known as LASUECO_2000, has made a significant contribution to the Department of Economics. This esteemed group recently donated two complete Public Address Systems (PAS) to enhance the educational experience within the classroom, particularly during large lectures. The presentation took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences in a ceremony filled with gratitude and nostalgia.

Attendees at the event included the Head of the Department, Prof. Fatai Ogunlana, alongside other respected faculty members such as Prof. Olufemi Lawal, the Dean of Social Sciences, and senior lecturers like Prof. Kolawole Bashir and Dr. Kehinde Atoyebi. The alumni were represented by the Vice President, Mrs. Winifred Nnoduo, and Secretary, Mr. Busayo Ajakaiye, both of whom articulated their heartfelt sentiments regarding the importance of giving back to the institution that played a pivotal role in their academic and professional journeys.

“This donation symbolizes our collective gratitude for the solid academic foundation LASU provided us,” Nnoduo expressed. “We are committed to supporting current students in their quests for academic excellence and personal growth.” Ajakaiye echoed this sentiment, reflecting on the power of celebrating 25 years since their graduation. “We are inspired now more than ever to make a meaningful impact on the learning environment of today’s students,” he stated, adding that such support is an investment in the leaders of tomorrow.

Receiving the donation, Prof. Ogunlana emphasized the tremendous benefits that the PAS would bring to lecture delivery, particularly in larger learning spaces. “The alumni’s thoughtful contribution will significantly enhance student engagement and interaction, enriching the educational experience,” he remarked. The wider academic community also extended their commendations to the LASUECO_2000 for this impactful gesture.

In addition to the equipment donation, the alumni association announced an exciting annual scholarship of N100,000 to reward the best-performing 300-level Economics student, commencing this academic year. This initiative further demonstrates their commitment to nurturing academic excellence within the department.

As LASUECO_2000 gears up to celebrate its Silver Jubilee Anniversary, they plan to unveil additional activities aimed at fostering lifelong connections, supporting growth at LASU, and empowering current students with mentorship opportunities and academic support initiatives.

This commendable effort from LASUECO_2000 serves as a reminder of the power of community and the enduring bonds formed through education. The contributions not only enhance the academic environment but also inspire future generations to pay it forward. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey as they continue to make a lasting impact!
