Celebrating Excellence in Healthcare: Top Hospitals and Regions Honored in Namibia
In a remarkable showcase of dedication and excellence in the healthcare sector, the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, Tsumeb District Hospital, and Windhoek Central Hospital have been acknowledged as the top three public hospitals in Namibia. This recognition came during the 2025 Annual Pharmaceutical Forum held recently in Windhoek, where the overarching theme was “Strengthening Sub-national Level Governance.”
The event, graced by Penda Ithindi, Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, provided a platform not only for celebrating these healthcare institutions but also for discussing the future of health governance in Namibia. Ithindi, reflecting on the collective achievements and challenges faced, emphasized the importance of collaboration and learning from one another within the sector. “A forum such as this offers us the chance to reflect on our shared progress, to learn from each other’s experiences, and to look ahead, together, with purpose,” he stated, representing Dr. Esperance Luvindao, the Minister of Health and Social Services.
Recognizing Regional Health Leaders
In a comprehensive evaluation of healthcare performance across the country, the Erongo Region stood out for the third consecutive year as the best-performing region. Following closely were the Khomas and Ohangwena regions, which secured the second and third spots, respectively. This recognition illustrates not only a commitment to health but also the effective governance and management of health resources in these areas.
Additionally, awards were given to facilities that demonstrated significant growth and improvement over the past year. The Okongo District Hospital was recognized as the most improved hospital, while the Hardap Region garnered accolades as the most improved region in healthcare service delivery. Such achievements highlight the proactive measures being taken to enhance the health outcomes of communities across Namibia.
Inspiring Innovation and Improvement
Ithindi’s closing remarks were an invitation to all healthcare professionals in Namibia. “To the regions and facilities that have gone above and beyond their duty, congratulations! Your work inspires others and contributes meaningfully to our national goals,” he said. The event has spurred an enthusiasm for continued improvement within the sector, encouraging a spirit of innovation and cooperation that is essential for the ongoing transformation of healthcare delivery in the country.
As Namibia moves forward with a focus on strengthening sub-national governance in health, the recognition of these hospitals and regions serves as both a motivation and a benchmark. It emphasizes the commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services to every citizen, paving the way for a healthier future for all.
Ultimately, this forum symbolizes not just the current achievements, but a hopeful journey towards even better healthcare, driven by passionate professionals committed to serving their communities.
