NamWater to Implement Planned Water Shutdown in Oshikoto Region: What Residents Should Know

In a proactive move to enhance water service reliability, the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has announced a scheduled water supply shutdown affecting parts of the Oshikoto Region. The planned outage is set to commence at midnight (00:00) on June 9, 2025, and will conclude at midnight (00:00) on June 10, 2025. This initiative is part of the corporation’s ongoing commitment to improving water distribution networks throughout the region.

Lot Ndamanomhata, NamWater’s Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, expressed that this necessary maintenance will impact all distribution pipelines connected to the Onembenge 2nd Tower. Communities relying on the Omulingi-Okakodhi-Ontana rural pipeline network, along with its various sub-branch lines, will experience temporary disruptions in their water supply during this essential upgrade.

“This maintenance work is crucial as it aims to remove bottleneck fittings at the tower, which will significantly improve flow efficiency,” Ndamanomhata explained. With Namibia entering a high-demand water season, especially with the anticipated challenges posed by drought conditions, this upgrade comes at a critical time for residents and businesses alike.

To ensure that everyone is prepared, Ndamanomhata urges local residents to store an adequate supply of water ahead of the shutdown. “Having sufficient water on hand during the maintenance period is key to reducing any inconvenience this may cause,” he noted.

Moreover, essential services—including hospitals, schools, clinics, and police stations—are encouraged to reach out to NamWater representatives for support during the outage. The dedicated contacts, Tommy Sheelongo (Operations Manager at 081 147 7911) and Nicodemus Ndemwiimba (Schemes Superintendent at 081 145 5267), are available to assist with urgent water needs.

In closing, NamWater extends its appreciation for the community’s understanding as it undertakes these crucial enhancements. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your cooperation during this period of necessary maintenance,” Ndamanomhata added.

This proactive measure underscores NamWater’s commitment to ensuring that residents receive reliable water services, reinforcing their reputation as a steward of Namibia’s precious water resources.

Stay tuned for further updates, and let’s all work together to ensure a smooth transition through this maintenance period.
