UNILAG Addresses Concerns Over Delays in NELFund Loan Student Reimbursements: What’s Happening?

University of Lagos Clears the Air on NELFund Loan Reimbursements

In a recent wave of discussions on social media, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has taken a proactive stance by addressing rumors regarding delays in the reimbursement of NELFund loans to its students. The university’s Head of Communication Unit, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, has come forward to clarify the situation and put students’ minds at ease.

On Thursday, Alaga-Ibraheem issued a statement refuting claims that the university is experiencing hold-ups in processing refunds for students who had already paid their mandatory fees prior to the university receiving the NELFund loans. “Refunds are typically processed after reconciliation and verification with NELFund,” she explained, emphasizing the importance of proper procedures to ensure accuracy.

Highlighting the university’s commitment to its students, she noted that three batches of NELFund loans have successfully arrived at UNILAG. Beneficiaries from the first two batches have already been reimbursed without incident, showcasing the institution’s dedication to efficient financial management.

As for the third batch of funds, which arrived at the end of April, the university is currently in the process of compiling and verifying the payment details of affected students. “Our management is keen to ensure all reimbursements are handled in line with established regulations,” Alaga-Ibraheem added, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency and student-service excellence.

For students interested in applying for NELFund loans or needing further assistance, the university has encouraged them to reach out to the NELFund help desk located within the student affairs division. This initiative illustrates UNILAG’s ongoing efforts to support its student body, making it a vital resource for academic empowerment.

In a landscape where financial support can significantly influence a student’s educational journey, the University of Lagos remains steadfast in its mission to provide timely and reliable support through initiatives like the NELFund. As this story continues to evolve, it highlights the importance of clarity and open communication between educational institutions and their students.
