Ombudsman Jack Chan’s Inspiring Journey to Morocco: A Leap Toward Stronger Global Partnerships!

Hong Kong's Ombudsman Strengthens International Ties at International Meeting in Morocco

In a remarkable showcase of diplomacy and cooperation, Hong Kong’s Ombudsman, Mr. Jack Chan, recently completed a successful visit to Morocco, marking a pivotal moment for the city’s engagement on the global stage. From May 15 to 16, Chan headed a delegation to attend the Board Meeting of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), where he spotlighted Hong Kong’s commitment to fostering international collaborations in governance and accountability.

During his time in Morocco, Mr. Chan not only chaired a crucial meeting of the IOI’s Standing By-laws Committee but also facilitated vibrant discussions with representatives from countries such as Mexico, South Korea, Austria, and Malta. His efforts culminated in reaching substantial agreements aimed at refining the institute’s governance, with all board members acknowledging the progress made under his leadership.

Significantly, Mr. Chan participated in the IOI’s United Nations and International Cooperation Working Group, where he exchanged ideas and strategies with over ten participating countries. This engagement highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting effective oversight and accountability worldwide.

Chan also took the opportunity to invite key figures in the ombudsman community, including Ms. Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, the Ombudsman of Mexico City, and Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit, Thailand’s Chief Ombudsman, to visit Hong Kong. This initiative aims to explore the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would pave the way for enhanced international cooperation, thereby reflecting Hong Kong’s unique positioning under the “one country, two systems” framework.

Mr. Chan’s proactive efforts illustrate Hong Kong’s vital role in bridging connections globally, garnering strong support not just from the mainland but from the international community as well. His leadership is helping to advance the dialogue on human rights and administrative justice, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a hub for international relations.

This visit also demonstrates Hong Kong’s commitment to stability and prosperity, accentuating its aspirations to cultivate a space where collaborative efforts can thrive. As the world increasingly looks towards respectful governance and ethical standards, Mr. Chan’s endeavors signify a forward-thinking approach in the realm of international ombudsman affairs, promising a brighter, more interconnected future.
