Celebrating Iconic Leadership: Namibia Honours Founding Fathers in Lusaka

In a momentous ceremony held in Lusaka, Zambia, Namibian President Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah unveiled two newly renamed roads, paying tribute to the nation’s cherished founding leaders, Dr. Hage Geingob and Dr. Sam Nujoma. The streets, known as Sadzu Road and Kasama Road, now stand as symbols of friendship and solidarity between Namibia and Zambia.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the importance of this renaming, stating that it serves as a lasting homage to the extraordinary contributions that both leaders made to the independence and development of Namibia. “Today, as we rename these roads, we are reminded of the values and aspirations these leaders instilled in us, and we continue to strive towards fulfilling their vision for our nations,” she stated, reflecting on the enduring legacy left by Dr. Geingob and Dr. Nujoma.

The road renaming event also underscored the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two African nations. Lusaka Mayor Ms. Chilando Chitangala warmly welcomed the initiative, applauding the Namibian President for her dedication to fostering the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Zambia and Namibia. “This act signifies a deep-rooted partnership that transcends borders and cultures. It is a testament to the collaboration and mutual respect we share,” she remarked.

In homage to the two iconic leaders, a ceremonial tree planting followed, led by President Nandi-Ndaitwah. This environmental gesture not only celebrated their legacy but also reinforced the message of sustainability and unity for future generations.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Hon. Gift Sialubalo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, and Hon. Charles Milupi, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development, among others. Their presence highlighted the collaborative spirit that both nations seek to cultivate.

As Zambia and Namibia celebrate this significant milestone, it is not just about honoring past leaders. It’s about inspiring future generations to cultivate leadership that drives progress, fosters cooperation, and promotes a shared vision for peace and prosperity across the African continent.

As we reflect on this event, it serves as a powerful reminder that the bonds of friendship between African nations can lead to vibrant collaborations that develop our communities and enrich our shared heritage. ###
