Chilanga Council Empowers Local Groups with K2.5 Million CDF Grants
In a significant move to bolster local economy, the Chilanga Town Council has recently distributed nearly K2.5 million in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants to 62 community groups, with each group receiving K40,000. This initiative is a testament to the council’s commitment to supporting grassroots development and enhancing self-sustainability within the community.
At the handover ceremony, Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata, represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary Alex Mapushi, emphasized the importance of proper education and financial literacy for the beneficiaries prior to receiving these grants. “It is crucial that our beneficiaries are well-informed and trained so that they can use these funds wisely, maximizing their potential for profitability,” Mulyata remarked.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship among local communities, empowering individuals to generate income and improve their livelihoods. This approach is particularly relevant in today’s economic climate, where the importance of self-sustainability cannot be overstated.
In addition to the grants, the council has also announced an exciting new road rehabilitation project, set to cost over K3.2 million. This infrastructure development is anticipated to significantly boost trade and improve access to essential services within the community. Enhancements to local infrastructure not only facilitate economic activities but also improve the quality of life for residents, making it easier for individuals to engage in various economic ventures.
Overall, these developments highlight a proactive approach in Chilanga towards economic empowerment and community development. By providing both financial support and infrastructural improvements, the Chilanga Town Council is setting a foundation for a thriving local economy.
As Chilanga chart a course for growth, this could serve as a model for other towns and cities in Zambia looking to harness local potential and foster sustainable development. With the right guidance and resources, the future looks bright for these local groups.
