Historic Appointment at Federal University Gusau: Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman Becomes First Female Registrar
In a groundbreaking decision that resonates with progress and empowerment, the Governing Council of Federal University Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara State has officially appointed Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman as the university’s third substantive registrar—and notably, the first ever female registrar in its 12-year history. This significant step forward was announced by Dr. Linus Akor, Head of the Media and Communication Committee, through a statement shared with the media on Sunday.
The council convened its 29th meeting last week, where they unanimously approved Suleiman’s appointment during session held from April 22 to 25 in Abuja. With an impressive M.A. in English Language from Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) in Sokoto, Suleiman is set to make her mark at a university that has consistently aimed to uplift educational standards in the region.
Before her historic appointment, Suleiman demonstrated her capability by serving as the acting registrar, filling the role after Malam Yakubu Anivbassa completed his tenure on February 4, 2025. Her extensive career at FUG includes holding the position of deputy registrar in the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where she contributed significantly to the university’s daily administrative functions. Her earlier experience as a faculty officer for the Faculty of Humanities and Education prepared her well for this new role, especially during its transitional period following its division.
Moreover, her involvement as a representative of the University Convocation in the Governing Council underscores her commitment to fostering community within the university. Suleiman has previously held essential roles such as Senior Staff Officer in the Establishment Division and Head of the Staff Development Office, all of which equip her for the upcoming challenges and responsibilities associated with being registrar.
The management of the university has publicly congratulated Suleiman, extending prayers for her success in this pivotal role. This appointment not only showcases FUG’s dedication to inclusivity and equality but also embodies the evolving landscape of higher education in Nigeria. It’s a momentous occasion that aligns with the broader narrative of women’s empowerment across the nation, suggesting a promising future for both the university and its students.
As Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman steps into this influential role, there is a sense of optimism surrounding her leadership. The educational community eagerly anticipates her vision for the future of Federal University Gusau, and her appointment reflects an inspiring commitment to progress.
