Velez-Malaga's Public Transport Plan for Holy Week: A Smooth Ride to Festivities

As Holy Week approaches, Velez-Malaga is gearing up to celebrate one of the most vibrant times of the year in this picturesque Axarquia town. With thousands anticipated to flock to the city’s stunning processions, local authorities have initiated a special public transport plan aimed at enhancing mobility and ensuring smooth traffic flow during this busy period.

This initiative is designed to provide seamless bus connections from various nearby towns, including Benajarafe, Valle Niza, Cajiz, Almayate, Triana, Trapiche, Mezquitilla, and Caleta de Velez. This means residents and visitors can enjoy the festivities without worrying about the hassle of parking.

The special service will come into operation on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, specifically on April 17 and 18. Buses are set to depart from locations like Lagos, Triana, and Chilches at 18:00, 19:00, and 20:00. And for those planning a late night, return buses will conveniently leave Velez-Malaga at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 AM, providing ample opportunity to enjoy the evening’s celebrations.

Each transportation route will feature distinct stops to accommodate different areas. The Lagos route will navigate through Mezquitilla, Caleta, and Torre del Mar, while the Triana route will have stops at Trapiche and the Trops cooperative. Additionally, the Chilches line will cover destinations like Chilches Costa, Benajarafe, Valle Niza, Cajiz, Almayate Costa, Almayate Pueblo, and Torre del Mar.

Moreover, the regular Velez-Malaga to Torre del Mar service will ramp up its frequency, running every 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the time of the day.

To further alleviate downtown congestion, both residents and visitors are encouraged to park at the fairgrounds near El Ingenio shopping center and utilize the public transport services. The city has also allocated extra parking zones, including a new lot on Calle del Río with 75 additional spaces. Overall, more than 1,100 parking spots will be available throughout Velez-Malaga during this festive week.

With these thoughtful arrangements in place, Velez-Malaga is ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone partaking in the celebrations.
