“Transforming Lives: Over 100,000 Users Thrive with Egypt’s Innovative Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Platform!”

In an impressive leap towards improving mental health services, Egypt has seen over 100,000 individuals engage with its groundbreaking electronic platform dedicated to mental health and addiction treatment since its launch in March 2022. As highlighted by Africazine, this milestone, with 100,897 registered users as of March 2025, echoes the country’s commitment to enhancing mental health accessibility and lowering barriers to treatment.

The innovative platform is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to provide not only psychological support and counseling but also addiction treatment. It serves as an essential resource, educating citizens on how to procure mental health consultations online. Such initiatives are crucial in a region where mental health traditionally has not received the attention it deserves.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, shared that users of the platform have submitted an impressive 23,744 completed electronic questionnaires. Moreover, over 10,767 virtual treatment sessions have been facilitated for individuals seeking assistance. This high engagement underscores a growing awareness and acceptance of mental health issues among Egyptians.

Interestingly, data from the platform indicates that 69% of its users are female, while 31% are male. The statistics reveal that a significant 82% of visitors are unmarried, with a considerable portion comprising teenagers and young adults—a demographic that often faces unique mental health challenges. Alarmingly, 63% of users are unemployed, reflecting the broader socioeconomic issues that can impact mental well-being in Egypt.

Menen Abdelmaqsoud, the Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, noted that the platform stands as the first of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean, proudly offering free mental health and addiction services to all individuals, including both Egyptians and expatriates residing in the country. She encouraged all citizens to explore the platform’s offerings at mentalhealth.mohp.gov.eg, emphasizing that mental health support is crucial for a flourishing society.

Furthermore, the General Secretariat actively collaborates with therapists on the platform to tackle technical challenges, aiming to refine service quality continuously and expand the network of qualified professionals. This proactive approach is vital in response to the increasing need for mental health resources amid societal changes.

In summary, Egypt is making commendable strides in mental health care through digital innovation, while fostering an environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help. This inspiring initiative may serve as a model for other countries in the region, paving the way for enhanced mental health and well-being across diverse communities.
