Putnam County Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with a Special Tribute to Ireland’s New York Consul

Celebrating Heritage: Honoring Ireland’s Consul General at St. Patrick’s Dinner in Albany

In a vibrant celebration of Irish heritage, Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne and County Legislator Bill Gouldman recently recognized Ireland’s Consul General to New York, Hon. Helena Nolan, at the prestigious 52nd Annual St. Patrick’s Dinner hosted by the American Irish Legislators Society of New York. This year’s event took place in Albany and was attended by a remarkable gathering of state lawmakers and dignitaries, highlighting the long-standing ties between the United States and Ireland.

Among the attendees were influential figures such as Governor Kathy Hochul, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and New York State DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder. The atmosphere was electric, with a lively bagpipe and drum performance setting the stage for an evening rich in tradition and community spirit.

County Executive Byrne, who has longstanding ties to the American Irish Legislators Society from his time as an Assemblyman, remarked, “It was an honor to recognize Consul General Helena Nolan and present her with a Putnam County Challenge Coin as a symbol of the unbreakable bond between our nations.” His words captured the essence of the evening: a celebration of shared history and the deep-rooted connections between Irish and American communities.

Legislator Gouldman shared similar sentiments, stating, “The Irish have made immeasurable contributions to our nation, and it was a privilege to be part of an evening that celebrates that legacy.” The mutual respect and admiration emphasized the importance of recognizing the significant role of Irish Americans in public service and community-building.

As Consul General Nolan prepares for her new role as Ireland’s Ambassador to Morocco, her contributions to the Irish community and international relations are being honored and celebrated. The American Irish Legislators Society of New York has a long history of fostering connections between Irish-American leaders and public officials, and this event served as a powerful reminder of those cultural and political bonds.

This annual gathering not only serves as a festive occasion but also a vital platform for promoting dialogue and collaboration between diverse communities. As Ireland and the United States continue to nurture their relationship, events like this remind us of the rich tapestry woven by heritage, culture, and shared experiences.
