“Power Moves: New Key Appointments Made by Tinubu for Akpabio’s Deputy, Ex-Osun Lawmaker, and Former Lagos Council Leader”

New Leadership for Nigeria's National Assembly Service Commission

In a significant move within Nigeria’s political landscape, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Saviour Enyiekere as the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC). This appointment signals a new era for the commission and comes with a five-year renewable term, highlighting the importance of continuity and stability in Nigeria’s governance structure.

Dr. Enyiekere, previously serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this new role. An accomplished environmental specialist, he is well-regarded for his commitment to sustainable practices and governance, which is increasingly becoming a focal point in Nigerian politics.

Joining Dr. Enyiekere on the commission are notable representatives from various regions of the country, ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process. The Southwest is represented by Honourable Taiwo Oluga, a former House of Representatives member from Osun State, and former Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Chairman, Honourable Afeez Ipesa-Balogun. This diversity in leadership reflects Nigeria’s rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives, fostering an inclusive political framework.

The appointments do not stop there. The commission’s new members from the other geopolitical zones include:

Northwest: Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka
Northeast: Aminu Ibrahim Malle and Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud
North Central: Mark Hanmation Tersoo and Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun
Southeast: Hon. Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu and Festus Ifesinachi Odii
Southsouth: Patrick A. Giwa and Mrs. Mary Ekpenyong

Each member has been appointed for a five-year renewable term, echoing a commitment by the Tinubu administration to promote effective governance through regular turnover and renewal of leadership.

As Nigeria navigates its complex political landscape, the establishment of a strong NASC under Dr. Enyiekere’s leadership could pave the way for improved legislative operations and enhanced public confidence in government institutions. This change comes at a crucial time when the demand for accountability and good governance is increasingly at the forefront of citizens’ concerns.

Nigeria’s evolving political scene not only reflects the adaptability of its leadership but also presents numerous opportunities for citizens and enthusiasts to engage with their government. With the new appointments in place, all eyes will be on how the National Assembly Service Commission shapes the legislative environment in the coming years.
