Egypt Sends Major Aid Convoy to Gaza Ahead of Ramadan
In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity, Egypt has launched one of its largest humanitarian aid operations to the Gaza Strip, aiming to provide much-needed support as the holy month of Ramadan approaches. On February 16, 2025, a convoy featuring over 460 trucks packed with 7,200 tons of food, medical supplies, and essential goods departed from Al-Shaab Square in the New Administrative Capital, en route to Rafah.
Under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and organized by the Tahya Misr Fund, this significant initiative is a beacon of hope for many struggling in Gaza. The timing coincides perfectly with the start of Ramadan on March 1, which is a month of fasting, prayer, and community support in the Muslim faith.
The convoy is thoughtfully equipped to withstand the challenges that may arise during its journey, carrying not just food and medical supplies but also large quantities of tents to provide shelter, clothing for all ages, as well as personal hygiene items, quilts, blankets, and carpets. This comprehensive array of supplies demonstrates an understanding of the diverse needs of the Gazan population, particularly as they observe Ramadan.
Tamer Abdel Fattah, the executive director of the Tahya Misr Fund, indicated that this convoy represents the first phase of a larger relief effort. The aid is being gathered from various governorates across Egypt, emphasizing the country’s commitment to humanitarian assistance. Following this initial phase, subsequent convoys will depart from different regions, ensuring a coordinated and extensive response to the urgent needs of Gazans.
Upcoming phases will involve aid from governorates including Alexandria, Beheira, and Dakahlia, showcasing the widespread support across Egypt. There’s also a planned third phase, which will include regions like Fayoum and Luxor, gearing up to maximize their impact and reach as many people as possible.
This isn’t the first initiative of its kind; earlier in January, the Tahya Misr Fund, in collaboration with the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, successfully dispatched a convoy of 305 trucks carrying more than 4,200 tons of aid, contributing to better health and well-being in Gaza.
As Ramadan draws near, this initiative symbolizes the spirit of compassion and humanitarianism, reminding us all of the power of community and support across borders.
As we approach this important time for reflection and giving, Egypt’s humanitarian efforts shine brightly, offering hope and assistance where it is needed most in Gaza.
