In a significant step forward for archaeological collaboration, Egypt and France have inked a new cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing skills within the field of archaeology. This pact, signed by Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, along with David Sadoulé, Director of the French Institute in Cairo, and Pierre Tallet, Director of the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology, marks another milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two nations.

The agreement targets the training of archaeological site inspectors and museum staff, focusing on elevating their French language skills specifically tailored to the archaeology sector. It reflects a mutual commitment to nurturing expertise and exchanging knowledge critical to preserving Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.

The event saw notable attendance, including French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier and Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, the Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for International Relations. During his address, Khaled emphasized the importance of this initiative, revealing that the French Institute will organize a series of specialized training courses for handpicked archaeological inspectors and museum curators supervised by the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Candidates for these coveted training opportunities will be chosen based on well-defined selection criteria, ensuring that the most dedicated and passionate individuals will have the chance to improve their skills. This initiative is poised to enhance not only the proficiency of the trainees but also the overall quality of archaeological research and curation in Egypt.

Additionally, the agreed-upon training will provide up to 100 participants with complimentary access to the expansive libraries and digital resources of the French Institute. This is a remarkable opportunity that will allow them to dive into a treasure trove of scientific literature and resources, enriching their academic journey in archaeology.

Dr. Khaled praised the longtime cooperation between Egypt and France, particularly in the domain of archaeology. He expressed gratitude towards the French partners for their active role in promoting capacity building among the staff of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, capturing the spirit of collaboration that aims to uphold and elevate Egypt’s archaeological prowess.

This partnership is not merely a convergence of resources, but a meaningful exchange of cultural heritage that underscores the significance of international cooperation in the preservation of history.
