The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) is buzzing with enthusiasm for Hajj 2025, as it has officially released its fourth accreditation list for this sacred pilgrimage, which will take place in the Islamic year 1446 AH. This exciting announcement comes as pilgrims prepare for an extraordinary journey that allows them to connect with millions of fellow believers in spirituality and culture.
From October 18 to November 2, 2016, candidates were accredited, but what’s particularly noteworthy is that SAHUC has also reinstated previous pilgrims who were accredited between 2009 and 2014 and have expressed their readiness to undertake the Hajj journey. This inclusive approach ensures that many who may have previously missed out on this pivotal experience now have the opportunity to join in.
Aspiring pilgrims have until December 28, 2024, to accept or defer their accreditation. With a total quota of 2,500 pilgrims for Hajj 2025, it’s expected to be an unforgettable experience. SAHUC President Hafiz Moaaz Casoo highlighted the positive response so far, stating, “So far, the intake has been quite great. We had about 216 pilgrims accredited with the fourth list, and the stats currently show that we have fewer than 200 pilgrims left to fill our quota.” This news brings hope to many eager participants as the registration process approaches its deadlines.
Looking ahead, Casoo mentioned that if spots remain unfilled, there will likely be a fifth list or even a manual accreditation process. “Based on history, we usually proceed to a fifth list or manual accreditation. This means if there are fewer than 100 pilgrims left to accredit, we start calling people who are next in line. There is always hope, and we encourage people not to feel despondent. Occasionally, cancellations or deferrals create additional spaces,” he further explained.
On the operators’ front, Casoo noted that currently, only two operators have met the minimum requirement of accommodating 500 pilgrims, though a third operator may soon qualify as well. It seems unlikely there will be more than three operators for this year’s pilgrimage, but this streamlined approach helps ensure a quality experience for all involved.
