Empowering Voices: QAT Foundation Champions Disability Representation in Nasarawa Politics

As Nasarawa State gears up for its Local Government Elections on November 2, there’s a refreshing wave of support for inclusivity in politics. The QAT Foundation has made a significant move by purchasing a councillorship nomination form for Mr. Yahaya Lawan Dantatu, a dedicated member of the People With Disabilities (PWDs) Association. This encouraging gesture demonstrates an evolving political landscape that seeks to include diverse voices.

Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, the visionary CEO of the QAT Foundation, recently addressed members of the PWD community in Abuja during a heartfelt thank-you visit. She emphasized that her backing for Dantatu’s political journey is grounded in his skills and capabilities rather than solely on his experience as a person with a disability. Her words echo a powerful narrative of empowerment, reminding us that true leadership transcends physical limitations.

Drawing inspiration from Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States who led the nation while navigating the challenges of polio, Tejuosho highlighted the potential of PWDs to make meaningful contributions to society. She called for a shift in focus—stressing the need for competence and humanity to guide political engagements over mediocrity. Furthermore, she urged the disabled community to remain steadfast in their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which she believes has the potential to implement transformative changes through its Renewed Hope Agenda.

The gratitude expressed by Comrade Idris Mohammed Sani, leader of the PWD group, underscores the impact of such initiatives. Sani conveyed his appreciation for Tejuosho’s unwavering commitment to uplifting marginalized communities, drawing attention to her role in enhancing the representation of PWDs within the political sphere.

“On behalf of Persons with Disabilities in Keffi Local Government, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho for generously donating the nomination form for Mr. Yahaya Lawan Dantatu,” Sani remarked. “Your support brings us closer to having a representative who will advocate for the rights and interests of PWDs in Nasarawa State.”

Dantatu’s candidacy sparks a sense of hope among the PWD community, representing a potential for meaningful advocacy for inclusivity and equal opportunities in governance. Sani’s call for future cabinet appointments to consider individuals like Tejuosho—who demonstrate genuine dedication to service—serves as a poignant reminder of the essential role of compassion in leadership.

As we approach the elections, the QAT Foundation’s efforts signal a new era of advocacy and representation, encouraging individuals from all walks of life to engage in the political process. The support shown for Dantatu is not merely a campaign activity; it is a movement towards a more inclusive and representative governance structure that values the voices of all citizens.
