Egypt’s Agricultural Exports Flourish: A Report That Reflects Growth and Potential
In a promising development for Egypt’s agricultural sector, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, has shared insights from a recent report presented by Mohamed El Mansy, the head of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine. This report, which covers the period from January 1 to October 16, 2024, highlights a significant surge in the country’s agricultural exports, reflecting both growth and resilience in the face of global market challenges.
According to the report, Egypt’s agricultural exports have impressively surpassed 6.9 million tonnes, boasting a total value of approximately .04 billion. This represents an increase of 0 million and over 574,000 tonnes compared to the same timeframe in 2023—a clear sign of an expanding agricultural landscape that aims to strengthen the economy and enhance food security.
The report shines a spotlight on Egypt’s diverse range of agricultural exports. Leading the charge are the vibrant citrus fruits, which alone accounted for an astounding 2,274,295 tonnes. These zesty exports are followed closely by fresh potatoes, which totalled 973,130 tonnes, confirming their status as a staple in international markets. Onions also play a crucial role, with exports hitting 281,785 tonnes, showcasing another area where Egyptian agriculture excels.
Notably, other key players in this export surge include fresh and dried beans (225,035 tonnes), grapes (179,993 tonnes), and mangoes (103,003 tonnes). The country has also seen impressive figures in pomegranate exports (60,624 tonnes), tomatoes (37,146 tonnes), garlic (24,237 tonnes), strawberries (21,295 tonnes), and guavas (12,720 tonnes).
