Adorable Candidates Compete for the Title of Beardsley Zoo's “Mayor”

Bridgeport’s Beardsley Zoo is bringing a delightful spin to its annual election season by introducing a lineup of furry and scaly candidates competing for the coveted title of “mayor” of the zoo! This year, they’ve assembled a charming group of animal contenders that are sure to capture the hearts of both zoo visitors and online voters alike.

Meet the six adorable candidates:

Dumbledore: This charming yellow-banded poison dart frog is small but mighty. Known for his vibrant colors, Dumbledore represents the beauty and fragility of our ecosystems.

Post Makoi: A magnificent koi fish that spends his days gracefully swimming in the zoo’s serene pond. His calm demeanor and striking appearance make him a symbol of peace and tranquility.

Willow: The wise eastern mud turtle embodies resilience and patience. With her decades-long experience, Willow offers valuable life lessons to all who cross her path.

Berry: This lovely red panda has captured hearts with her playful antics and fluffy cuteness. Berry is a reminder of the wonders of biodiversity, and her presence shines a spotlight on conservation efforts for vulnerable species.

Nuna: Representing strength and grace, this majestic Andean bear is a true tower of beauty. With her playful spirit, Nuna invites everyone to enjoy the great outdoors while raising awareness about the importance of wildlife habitats.

Ethel: The delightful guinea hog is a fan favorite with her friendly nature and endearing personality. Ethel’s candidacy encourages a love for all animals, big and small.

Last year, it was Tahu the river otter who claimed the title, and now it’s time for a new champion to emerge from the vibrant zoo community. Voting kicks off right away and is open until November 5, giving fans plenty of time to show their support for their favorite animal candidate. Interested voters can easily cast their ballots online, making it a fun and interactive event for everyone, especially families!

This unique election at Beardsley Zoo not only entertains but also educates the public about the importance of wildlife conservation and the role zoos play in protecting endangered species. It’s a beautiful reminder that every creature, no matter how small or large, has a voice worth hearing.

Join the fun and make your vote count! Who knows? The next “mayor” could be your new favorite animal!
