In a significant development for Egypt’s energy landscape, Petrojet, under the leadership of Chairman Waleed Lotfy, has cemented its place in the country’s nuclear power journey by signing a groundbreaking 0 million contract with JSC Atomstroyexport, a subsidiary of Russia’s Rosatom. This momentous agreement paves the way for coastal protection works at the ambitious Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, a project poised to redefine Egypt’s electricity generation capabilities.
The signing ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Amged El-Wakeel, the Chairman of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), and Samy Soliman, Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA). Together, they marked a pivotal moment in Egypt’s path toward sustainable energy. El-Wakeel emphasized that the agreement responsibly includes a local participation rate, ensuring that at least 20% of the project’s first unit and an impressive 35% for the fourth unit will be managed through local resources. This commitment not only boosts local expertise but also aligns with broader economic goals, showcasing Egypt’s dedication to fostering domestic industry.
The project is no small undertaking. Lotfy detailed that the coastal protection plan spans 4.2 kilometers and involves extensive earthworks amounting to 2 million cubic meters. Notably, over 800,000 cubic meters of rock will be supplied and installed, culminating in the construction of more than 91,000 concrete breakwaters. This infrastructure is essential for safeguarding the nuclear facility against natural elements, ensuring its long-term operational integrity.
Kononenko, involved with JSC Atomstroyexport, expressed confidence in Petrojet’s capabilities, highlighting the company’s competencies and resource availability as vital for the success of this landmark phase in the Dabaa project. This sentiment underscores the collaborative spirit that defines international partnerships in today’s energy arena.
As Egypt strategically diversifies its energy sources, the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant stands as a testament to the nation’s vision for a sustainable, secure, and economically viable energy future. The ongoing developments in this project not only promise to enhance energy security in Egypt but also signal a larger shift in the region towards embracing advanced technologies in energy production.
With the successful completion of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, Egypt is set to emerge as a leader in nuclear energy within the African continent, setting an example for others to follow. It’s a bright step forward for a country dedicated to progress, sustainability, and self-sufficiency.
