Local Bank Supports Education by Donating Desks to School in Dar

DCB Bank Plc Donates Desks to Msisiri 'B' Primary School in Dar es Salaam: A Commitment to Education

In an inspiring act of corporate social responsibility, DCB Bank Plc has made headlines by donating 30 desks worth a remarkable 6 million Tanzanian shillings to Msisiri ‘B’ Primary School in Dar es Salaam. This generous donation marks the beginning of an ambitious initiative by the bank to enhance education in the region, with plans to provide a total of 1,000 desks to primary schools throughout Dar es Salaam in 2024.

The handover ceremony took place yesterday, spotlighting DCB’s commitment to giving back to the community. Sabasaba Moshingi, the Chief Executive Officer of DCB Bank, emphasized the significance of this effort during his speech at the event. “We are excited to kick off our CSR program with Msisiri ‘B’ Primary School, which will pave the way for our goal of supporting educational institutions across the city,” he stated.

Established merely in 2022, DCB Bank has already made significant strides in supporting local communities. With a network of nine branches—one in Dodoma and the rest in Dar es Salaam—the bank has provided low-interest loans amounting to an impressive 250 billion shillings to over 500,000 beneficiaries. Notably, around 80% of those beneficiaries are women and youth, reflecting the bank’s dedication to empowering these vital segments of society. This year alone, the bank has disbursed loans worth 10 billion shillings, with a future target of extending an additional 50 billion shillings over the next five years.

Tatu Mkali, the Principal of Msisiri ‘B’ Primary School, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the school’s growth since its establishment in 2005. It started with just 154 students and seven teachers but has now grown to enroll 516 students across various grades with a total of 12 teachers. “Our students’ performance in national examinations has shown significant improvement year after year, and contributions like these make a world of difference,” said Mkali.

Mary Msuya, the Acting Education Officer of Kinondoni Municipality, praised DCB Bank for its thoughtful contribution, which enhances the teaching and learning environment for students. “With this new donation of 30 desks, Msisiri ‘B’ School now has a total of 130 desks—an essential boost for our ongoing improvements in educational infrastructure,” she noted.

Moreover, Songoro Mnyonge, Mayor of Kinondoni Municipality, called on other financial institutions to follow suit in supporting local schools, emphasizing that a conducive learning environment is crucial for student success. “We applaud DCB for consistently giving back to the community and providing humanitarian aid, particularly to underserved groups such as orphans,” he added.

As DCB Bank continues its journey of community support, the impact of such initiatives will undoubtedly resonate throughout Dar es Salaam, fostering a brighter future for the next generation. This act not only demonstrates the bank’s role in fostering educational growth but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of corporate engagement in local communities.
