In a significant achievement for sustainable logistics, Swiss forwarding giant Kuehne+Nagel has successfully delivered a crucial shipment of Nokia telecommunications equipment from the bustling port of Shanghai, China, to the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott. This latest endeavor highlights the growing importance of eco-friendly transportation solutions in today’s global supply chain.
The impressive shipment comprised 25 pallets and nearly 860 boxes, collectively weighing about 44 tonnes. After making its way through the waves, it was first transported by sea freight to the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. Kuehne+Nagel utilized an exclusive air cargo charter from the UAE to Mauritania, allowing for priority handling and optimized shipping capacities, ensuring that the equipment arrived in a timely manner to meet Nokia’s stringent deadlines.
Mohammed Rizwan, Kuehne+Nagel’s air logistics sea-air product sustainability manager, expressed the company’s commitment to balancing rapid delivery with sustainability. He stated, “Rapid delivery and sustainability were Nokia’s top priorities.” Remarkably, the sea-air strategy employed by Kuehne+Nagel significantly cut down carbon emissions when compared to traditional air freight. The carbon savings from this shipment were equivalent to the emissions produced by 20 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles over the course of a year or the impact of growing 1,337 tree seedlings for a decade!
In a statement affirming their dedication to environmentally conscious practices, Claudia Brito, Nokia’s leader in global transportation operations for mobile networks, remarked, “Kuehne + Nagel’s sea-air logistics solution not only met Nokia’s requirements for short lead times, reliability, and cost efficiency, but also significantly reduced our carbon footprint.” This collaboration underscores the vital role logistics plays in advancing sustainable practices among major corporations.
This recent delivery serves as a reminder of how innovative logistics strategies are essential for not just meeting business objectives but protecting our planet as well. As nations and companies around the globe continue to navigate the challenges of climate change, Kuehne+Nagel and Nokia’s partnership exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to eco-friendly logistics that could pave the way for future collaborations.
As we look forward to seeing more companies embracing sustainability, it’s exciting to witness how the logistics industry is evolving to meet both economic and ecological demands.
