Firenze Celebrates Literary Art in the Heart of the City: La Pergola in Piazza

FIRENZE – Mark your calendars! On Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, the vibrant atmosphere of Piazza dei Ciompi in Florence will transform into a haven for poetry enthusiasts and cultural aficionados alike as La Pergola in Piazza makes its much-anticipated return. This unique event, organized by the esteemed Teatro della Pergola in partnership with the Théâtre de la Ville of Paris, promises an exciting mix of performances that engage both the heart and mind.

At the forefront of the day’s activities will be a captivating poetic performance celebrating the closing of the Jeux Poétiques, an artistic homage linking Paris to Los Angeles. This vibrant part of the day’s programming will feature specially crafted works from renowned French and American poets that resonate with themes of sport and competition, seamlessly tying into the spirit of the upcoming Olympic Games. Adding to the tapestry of words will be notable contributions from celebrated Italian poets like Leopardi and Saba, enriching the cultural exchange between nations.

A standout feature of this year’s event will be the appearance of Bingo Regis, a dynamic actor from Rwanda, who will collaborate with local artists including Maddalena Amorini, Alessio Martinoli, Carolina Pezzini, Sara Rados, and Maria Angela Robustelli. This collaboration signifies the deepening ties between Italy and Rwanda, a relationship that was notably strengthened at the Triennale in Kigali earlier this year.

The event will also showcase favorites such as Consultazioni Poetiche, where attendees can engage in one-on-one artistic dialogues, culminating in personalized poetic prescriptions tailored just for them. Additionally, the Ping Pong Poesia segment invites participants to intertwine the playfulness of sport with poetic expression, creating an energetic and unique experience. This creative twist invites players to abide by a dual set of rules—those of the game and the rhythm of poetry—transforming a simple ping pong match into a poetic battle of wits.

As if that wasn’t enough, a special edition of the Gazzetta della Piazza will also be released, packed with insights and articles enriching the dialogue between Florence and Paris.

Join us at Piazza dei Ciompi for La Pergola in Piazza and experience the magic of poetry, art, and sports come together in a celebration that is as inspiring as it is entertaining. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in a day filled with creativity and connection!
