Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been priced beyond Kaizer Chiefs’ reach with Chippa United having reportedly placed an asking price of R40 million.

Nwabali is top performing for Nigeria at the AFCON finals where he has negotiated his way to being the first-choice keeper.

The big keeper has conceded one goal and kept three clean sheets in four games in Cote d’Ivoire with the Super Eagles through to the quarter-finals where they will face Angola.

Nwabali joins Bafana Bafana captain and fellow DStv Premiership colleague Ronwen Williams with the most clean sheets at the tournament.

While this website has reported on how Nwabali’s transfer value has surged tenfold to approximately R6 million since joining Chippa just over a year ago, reports in Nigeria claim the Chilli Boys are asking for R40 million.

It is claimed Siviwe Mpengesi’s club has asked for a hefty 2 million Euros (approx. R40,4 million) based on what Nwabali has done at the AFCON.

There is already interest which will grow even further in the coming weeks, especially if the Super Eagles go on to reach the final.

Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise have led the list of clubs that have shown interest with another option in Saudi Arabia being added.

Spanish club Cadiz has taken notice of the big Nigerian keeper.

The 27-year-old has 24 appearances at Chippa since joining in October 2022.

There have been several local reports claiming Kaizer Chiefs have shown interest, considering that Itumeleng Khune is expected not to play for Amakhosi next season.

However, with what is happening at the AFCON and the subsequent interest from European clubs which has motivated Chippa’s price tag, Chiefs’ reported interest could remain just that.
