The Super Eagles progression in the Africa Cup of Nations has stalled the resumption of the second stanza of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
The national team’s outstanding performance at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast prompted public demand, according to the NPFL Board, which had earlier set a resumption date for February 4.
In a letter addressed to various clubs on Wednesday, the board disclosed that the league will commence on February 14th.
The letter reads: “Be informed therefore that a new date of February 14th has been decided for the commencement of the second stanza of the season.
“This decision was reached to capture the full attention of players, fans, and all other stakeholders at this time of the prime African football tournament.
”After 185 matches in the first half of the league, Lobi Stars, Remo Stars, and Enyimba placed first, second, and third, respectively, while Heartland, Gombe, Bayelsa United, and Sporting Lagos were left wallowing in relegation waters.
