Tactical Adjustment Secured Victory Against Cote d’Ivoire – Finidi George

Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George, attributes the team’s victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to discipline and a tactical switch in formation.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the intense match, Finidi expressed satisfaction with the players following the tactical execution against the hosts.

“We are very happy with the victory, but nothing has been done yet. It was a tactical game; we switched formation and had to defend most of the time, using counterattacks from the flanks. It’s a team (Cote d’Ivoire) that is very good on the ball, so we had to sit back a bit, close the spaces, and go on counterattacks,” he explained.

While acknowledging the success, Finidi emphasized the need for the team to stay focused and work harder in the upcoming match against Guinea Bissau on Monday.

“We will keep our cool in the next match because nothing has been achieved yet; we go all out again,” he emphasized.

As of now, Nigeria is placed second in Group A and is set to face Guinea-Bissau on Monday at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan for their third and final round of Group A matches, starting at 5:00 p.m. (local time).
