As part of their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire, the Ghana national football team, popularly known as the Black Stars, has commenced a nine-day training camp in Kumasi.

The training camp started on January 2, 2024, and will serve as a crucial period for finalizing the team’s strategies and assessing player fitness ahead of the continental tournament.

The team, led by head coach Chris Hughton, conducted its initial training session at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

However, due to unfavorable pitch conditions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the training venue was shifted to the alternative location.

A total of 24 players participated in the first day of training. The squad includes notable names such as Joseph Wollacott, Andre Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, and others.

The technical team, led by Hughton, is expected to use this camp to fine-tune tactics, build team cohesion, and make final selections for the AFCON tournament.

The Black Stars are scheduled to play a friendly match against Namibia on January 8, 2024, as part of their preparation before heading to Cote D’Ivoire for the AFCON competition.

The tournament is set to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, featuring some of the best national teams from across Africa.

Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the group stage of the tournament.
