Thousands of football supporters have flooded the streets of Abidjan to the town of Ebimpé, where the Olympic Stadium will host the opening match of the 34th African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Heavy traffic greeted supporters ahead of the match between the host, Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau, as Ivorians showed excitement that their country would again host the tournament after forty years.

Commuting the road from the city of Abidjan to Ebimpe took almost three hours instead of the regular one and a half hours due to the heavy traffic.

The Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire will be hoping to repay the massive support of the home crowd by securing the maximum three points when they take to the pitch to tango the contingents from Guinea-Bissau by 8:00 p.m. local time.
