Club ‘remain calm’ – Insistence Newcastle United have to approach full clause to start negotiations

Last January, Sporting signed Ousmane Diomande from FC Midtjylland and his displays in recent months have reportedly seen Newcastle United and other clubs take notice.

For the past few days, claims coming out of the UK have stated the Magpies are willing to make an effort to sign the defender in the winter market.

This is relayed by today’s A Bola, who then present their take on how Newcastle can sign the 20-year-old.

The Ivory Coast international has an €80m release clause in a deal that lasts until 2027 and the Lions want this figure, or very close to it, to part ways with him in January.

Diomande is apparently Eddie Howe’s priority target this month and his side could try to get ahead of competition to secure his services by getting close to that clause.

A Bola points out the defender’s clause doesn’t seem to scare the Tyneside club, and add that Sporting ‘remain calm’.

It’s claimed Sporting have explained they’ll only negotiate his sale for €80m and this doesn’t seem to scare off interest.

With the Portuguese club willing to negotiate, this would indicate that clubs that want to sign Diomande may not have to activate his clause but offer a fee around €80m or close to this figure with bonuses.

Whether that’s possible for the Magpies in January remains to be seen.
