The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a groundbreaking announcement by revealing a substantial 40% increase in the Prize Money for the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
This significant move is expected to heighten anticipation and enthusiasm for the prestigious football tournament.
The winner of the 2023 AFCON will now claim an impressive USD 7,000,000, reflecting the increased financial rewards.
The runner-up will also enjoy a substantial boost, with their prize money increased to USD 4,000,000.
The stakes have been raised for the semi-finalists as well, with each team competing not only for glory but also for a substantial USD 2,500,000.
Even the quarter-finalists, consisting of four teams, will receive a compelling incentive, each set to receive USD 1,300,000.
This surge in prize money is expected to add a new level of intensity and determination to the 2023 AFCON, elevating the competition to unprecedented heights.
The President of CAF, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, expressed confidence that a portion of the prize money would contribute to developing football and benefit all football stakeholders, as well as assist member associations with their administrations.
“CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions.
We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money,” the President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe said.
“I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations,” he added.
The increased prize money reflects CAF’s commitment to the growth and development of African football.
