Victor Osimhen, the star striker for Super Eagles of Nigeria and Napoli in Italy, has conveyed optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances of winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although Nigeria last claimed the continental title in South Africa in 2013, Osimhen believes the current squad possesses the requisite quality to emerge victorious in the tournament.
Speaking at a dinner organized to celebrate his coronation as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi, Osimhen emphasized the importance of winning the tournament in Ivory Coast. He expressed confidence in the team, stating, “I believe in this group; we have a bunch of talented players to execute the job. Fingers crossed, and we are going to do so well.”
Osimhen, who was the top scorer in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers with 10 goals, is ready to lead the Super Eagles against hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
