AFCON 2023: Equatorial Guinea Goalkeeper Owono Reveals Secret After Holding Super Eagles to 1-1 Draw

Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesus Owono has revealed the secret behind the team’s impressive performance against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

He said teamwork led to the 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles in their AFCON 2023 Group B fixture at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

All goals of the encounter were scored in the first half.

Ivan Edu Salvador of Equatorial Guinea scored first, drawing an almost instant equaliser by Victor Osimhen.

One highlight of the match is Victor Osimhen’s miss in the 75th minute.

“The unity in our team made the difference for us against Nigeria,” he told a press conference after the game.

“Our strength was the teamwork we showed on the pitch. We were not scared and took the game to them.”

Owono was named Man of the Match after the game.

Juan Micha’s side will now face Guinea-Bissau in their next game on Thursday, while Nigeria’s next match is against hosts Cote D’Ivoire on the same day.
