Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament remains wide open after a 1-1 draw between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon.
The 34th edition of the AFCON kicked off on Saturday, January 13, when Ivory Coast locked horns with Guinea Bissau.
After a high-flying performance in the opening game, Ivory Coast secured a 2-0 victory to start off the hosting on a good note.
Today, Nigeria locked horns with Equatorial Guinea in the second match in Group A in the first round of games.
Although the Super Eagles would impress in the opening 10 minutes, they failed to score and had to pay for it in the 36th minute.
Equatorial Guinea against the run of play equalised through Iban Salvador to take the lead.
Two minutes later, Nigeria responded when Victor Osimhen scored to restore parity to the contest.
Although Nigeria would continue to dominate the game, the Super Eagles could not find the back of the net again and had to settle for a point at the end of the game.
